Iran's President and Central Bank Chief Urge Supreme Leader to Approve U.S. Ceasefire; Committee Votes 12-1 in Favor

According to The New York Times, Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian visited Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei on July 4 to urge approval of a preliminary U.S.-Iran ceasefire agreement, warning of severe economic consequences and threatened resignation if the deal was rejected. Central Bank Governor Abdolnaser Hemmati also wrote to Khamenei, citing critical food and medical supply shortages projected by August if the U.S. sea blockade continued. Khamenei ultimately approved the agreement, instructing Pezeshkian to proceed after the Supreme National Security Council voted 12 in favor out of 13 members, according to the president's statement.
