South Korea Raises Minimum Deposits for Single-Stock Leverage ETFs to 30M Won on July 16

According to the Financial Services Commission, South Korea on July 16 raised minimum deposits for single-stock leverage ETFs on Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix from 10 million won to 30 million won, with cash as the only eligible collateral. The regulator also expanded trading unit size from 1 to 20 shares and extended mandatory education from 2 to 3 hours. Individual investors criticized the measure, noting deposit interest rates remain around 1% while the requirement tripled, effectively restricting purchase power. Concerns emerged that retail investors may sell other holdings to meet deposit requirements, potentially intensifying market concentration.
