Step Releases Step Edge Family with 0.1-Second Tool Call Latency

According to Beating, Step has released Step Edge, an on-device model family supporting text, image, and voice processing for smartphones and vehicles. The model family includes base, audio, GUI, and generation models capable of screen understanding, speech recognition, interface operation, and image generation. On-device tool calls achieve latency as low as 0.1 seconds. Simple and high-frequency tasks can be completed locally, while complex reasoning is handled by the cloud. Sensitive data remains on-device, reducing dependency on network and cloud computing resources.
