Supertanker Chartered at Nine Times Benchmark Rate in Persian Gulf, Year High

According to Bloomberg, a supertanker with capacity for about 2 million barrels of crude oil was chartered at 897 Worldscale points—nine times the benchmark rate—for transport from the Persian Gulf to Singapore this year, marking the highest rate recorded so far in 2026. The vessel was booked by South Korean shipowner Changjin Shipping amid acute shortage of available tonnage in the region.
