UK Defense Ministry Shifts Naval Replacement Plan, to Procure 6 Universal Combat Ships Yesterday

According to the UK Defense Ministry, announced yesterday (June 28), the government abandoned its original plan to replace aging Type 45 destroyers with new Type 83 destroyers. Instead, it will procure at least six universal combat ships to serve as command centers for unmanned warfare systems. The six Type 45 destroyers are scheduled to retire by the end of 2038, and the hybrid-powered universal combat ships are expected to begin delivery in the early 2030s.
