Waymo and Uber End Robotaxi Pilot in Phoenix, Shift Vehicles to DoorDash Deliveries

According to CNBC and official statements from both companies, Waymo automated vehicle rides are no longer available via the Uber app in Phoenix, Arizona, as of Monday, June 30. The pilot program, which deployed just over a dozen vehicles, was an intentionally limited deployment that helped inform Waymo's expansion in other markets.

The autonomous vehicles from the Phoenix pilot will continue operating in the city, redirected to autonomous deliveries via DoorDash, which competes with Uber Eats. Waymo operates a fleet of approximately 4,000 automated vehicles in the U.S., with exclusive partnerships on Uber in Austin and Atlanta where hundreds of vehicles are available.
