Argentina Exempts Registered Crypto Exchanges From 'Cheque Tax' Via Executive Order 475/2026

According to Executive Order 475/2026, Argentina's President Javier Milei has exempted virtual asset service providers (VASPs) registered in the country from the debt and credit tax, commonly known as the 'cheque tax,' on June 21. The measure aims to equalize tax treatment between crypto exchanges and traditional financial institutions. The tax, originally introduced in November 2021, had previously excluded crypto asset operations despite exempting traditional banks. The new order extends those exemptions to registered crypto exchanges to align regulations with technological advances.
