According to an ACCC statement on Tuesday, Australia's Competition and Consumer Commission has filed legal action against Amazon Australia, alleging the company used unfair contract terms between November 2023 and August 2025 to introduce advertising into Prime Video.
The ACCC said more than one million annual Prime subscribers were required to accept ads or pay an additional AU$2.99 ($2.05) per month for an ad-free option when Amazon launched ads on Prime Video in July 2024, with no refund entitlement if they chose to cancel. The regulator is seeking consumer redress, penalties, and other remedies.
