According to BlockBeats, on July 22, Bridgewater Associates founder Ray Dalio recalled in a recent podcast that he once advised Elon Musk against investing the majority of his PayPal proceeds into Mars exploration. Musk responded at the time: "No, I don't need to do that."
Dalio disclosed that after selling PayPal, Musk received approximately $180 million, which he subsequently invested heavily across multiple ventures: about $100 million to SpaceX, roughly $70 million to Tesla, and around $10 million to solar energy company SolarCity. When Dalio suggested keeping some cash as a safety cushion, Musk declined, indicating his focus remained on long-term objectives rather than wealth accumulation.
