According to the Ethereum Foundation, its Protocol Security team deployed coordinated AI agents to hunt vulnerabilities in critical protocol code, uncovering a remotely triggerable panic in the libp2p gossipsub library that powers Ethereum's peer-to-peer communications. The vulnerability has been disclosed as CVE-2026-34219 and resolved. The team found that while AI effectively expands security coverage, the bottleneck shifted from bug discovery to rigorous triage—separating real issues from false positives—which requires human judgment at scale.
