South Korea's Bond Market Faces Weakness as Foreign Investors Sell 8,000 3-Year Futures on July 23

According to Yonhapinfomax, South Korea's bond market faced weakness on July 23 as foreign investors sold approximately 8,000 3-year government bond futures contracts, the day before the release of Q2 national income statistics. Market participants expect the data to exceed consensus forecasts, driven by strong semiconductor export indicators, though the extent of outperformance remains uncertain.

The Bank of Korea has signaled particular focus on real GDI (Gross Disposable Income) and inflation data due next month. Q1 real GDI showed a significant sequential increase of 8.7%, reflecting improving terms of trade from semiconductor price gains. Officials are closely monitoring whether this momentum will persist into Q2.
