Digital Chamber Sues Illinois Over 0.2% Blockchain Transaction Tax, Alleging Constitutional Violations

According to The Daily Hodl, the Digital Chamber sued Illinois over its Digital Asset Tax Act, which imposes a 0.2% levy on exchanges, transfers, and storage of digital assets. The group alleges the tax discriminates against blockchain-based assets compared to economically identical activities involving cash, stocks, or bonds, and applies repeatedly to routine operations with insufficient ties to the state, violating equal protection and federal commerce clause protections.

Plaintiffs seek declaratory and injunctive relief. Members include digital asset exchanges, custodians, financial institutions, payment companies, stablecoin issuers, tokenization platforms, and blockchain infrastructure providers.
