The Digital Chamber Sues Illinois Over 0.2% Crypto Transaction Tax

According to The Block, on Tuesday The Digital Chamber filed a complaint in Illinois circuit court challenging the state's newly enacted 0.2% tax on digital asset transactions. The tax, signed into law by Governor JB Pritzker last month, is scheduled to take effect in January 2027.

TDC argues the tax violates constitutional protections by singling out blockchain-based transactions while leaving economically identical transactions conducted through older technologies untaxed. The organization is asking the court to declare the law void and unenforceable. CEO Cody Carbone stated: "Taxes should be carefully considered, not only for the revenue they produce but for the fairness of those being taxed."
