MCSA Shifts Stance on CLARITY Act to Neutral After Concerns on Section 604 Addressed

According to Cointelegraph, the Major County Sheriffs' Association (MCSA) recently shifted its stance on the CLARITY Act from opposition to neutral in a letter to Senate banking leaders Tim Scott and Elizabeth Warren, after its concerns about Section 604 were addressed. Section 604 relates to the Blockchain Regulatory Certainty Act, which aims to protect developers from liability for illegal activities conducted by users on their decentralized platforms. MCSA previously warned the provision could create loopholes for criminals and hinder law enforcement's ability to investigate crypto-related crimes. The association indicated it still seeks amendments to Section 309, which requires the U.S. Treasury Department to research decentralized finance and illegal finance risks, advocating for state law enforcement inclusion.
